Information about Measles and MMR vaccine which helps protect against measles, mumps and rubella

Measles cases are rising with over twice as many cases confirmed in the first half of 2023 compared to the previous year. We know that having the MMR vaccine is the best way to protect our communities.

First MMR vaccine is given at 12 months of age and the second MMR vaccine is given at 3 years 4 months of age. As highlighted by the National MMR vaccination campaign, GP Practices also encourage patients aged 6 years up to and including 25 years who have received national MMR call and recall reminders, to book appointments so that we ensure they are up to date with the vaccination.

In summary:

· If your child is fully vaccinated, there is no additional booster required and the child has received full protection against measles by receiving both vaccinations

· If child is NOT fully vaccinated and between the ages of 1-4, you should book them an appointment to have their vaccinations as soon as possible at your practice

· If your child is NOT fully vaccinated and between the ages of 5-11, you should book them an appointment at the practice to have their vaccinations as soon as possible

· If child’s vaccination record is unclear or uncertain, the safest advice is to book them an appointment with the nurse to have their vaccinations. The nurse will check the vaccination records prior to their appointment.

There are additional vaccinations clinics available in Camden for children and young people aged 4 to 18 (link included below):
